People By Libianca Becomes Cameroon’s Most Successful Single of All Time
Cameroonian singer Libianca Kenzonkinboum Fonji popularly known as Libianca has reached a milestone with her global hit single titled “People” on streaming platforms Spotify and YouTube.
Released on December 6, 2022, the audio, People by Libianca has become the most successful song by a Cameroonian artiste of all time with a record breaking 103 Million views on YouTube (at the time of making this report) surpassing Cameroonian rapper Franko’s 7 year old hit “Coller la Petite” with 75 Million views on YouTube.
Away from the visuals, Libianca’s People also clocked a mind blowing 260 Million streams on Spotify. This is the highest a song by a Cameroonian artiste has ever attained. People still holds the number 2 spot on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs Chart for the 24th week after making its entry at No. 38 in December. The hit song recently made its entry on the Billboard Hot 100 charting on the 91st spot on May 13, 2023.
The streaming gains of the Billboard Hot 100 Charting hit can be attributed to TikTok which played a big factor in popularizing the song with the original sound being used over 1.7 Million times, its sped up version has recorded over 300.000 clips on the platform. Other attributes were as a result of multiple remixes of the track by Becky G, Ayra Starr & Omah Lay not forgetting the amount of fans who urged her to drop the song after she uploaded it on Tiktok waking up the following morning to seeing so many people connected and relating to the message in the song.
Prior to “People” and being a Billboard Hot 100 Charting hitmaker, Libianca came to light during her participation at the 21st season of NBC’s The Voice, in 2021. With Blake Shelton coaching skills, she reached the top 20 before being eliminated. During her time on the show, she performed song like Billie Eillish’s “Everything I Wanted”, Doja Cat’s “Woman”, SZA’s “Good Days and The Weeknd’s “Save Your Tears”
