Buea Experiences Rising Heat As Climate Experts Warn Of Prolonged Heatwave In Central Africa
The usually cool weather of Buea is becoming increasingly uncomfortable, with many people struggling to cope with the rising temperatures. The heat, which has become a growing concern across parts of Central Africa, has prompted climate experts to warn of a prolonged heatwave that could continue into early 2027.
According to climate forecasts, temperatures across the region could rise between 0.5°C and 1.5°C above normal levels, with the El Niño weather phenomenon identified as one of the factors influencing changing weather conditions. Although the temperature increase may appear small, it can put serious pressure on the human body, especially for people who spend long hours under the sun.
Health experts are advising people to drink plenty of water, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the hottest hours and stay in cool, well-ventilated places. Parents are also warned against leaving children inside parked vehicles or poorly ventilated rooms. Older people and those with existing health conditions need extra care during this period.
The situation could become more difficult in areas where access to water and electricity remains a challenge, making it harder for families to find relief from the heat.
As Buea and other parts of the region face these changing weather conditions, everyone is encouraged to take simple precautions and look out for one another.
