Hollywood actor Danny Olabi has become a talking point among African social media users following a hilarious roadside encounter with Nigerian streamer Peller in Canada, which has brought his Cameroonian roots into the spotlight.

During their conversation, Peller jokingly introduced himself as Ghanaian before asking Danny about his TikTok following. Danny revealed he had 1.7 million followers, leaving Peller impressed until he checked the Nigerian star’s account and discovered he had 17 million. Suddenly, the man who came looking for a shout-out was the one needing one!

Born and raised in New York to Cameroonian and Guyanese parents, Danny is an actor, singer and filmmaker with credits in Power Book II: Ghost, Law & Order: Organized Crime, The Blacklist and Blue Bloods.

Interestingly, his connection to Cameroon goes beyond his father’s roots. His grandfather, Fayez Olabi, was a prominent businessman who owned cinema halls in Kumba, including Big Plus Cinema in Fiango and B-Plus Cinema along Buea Road. He also operated cinemas in Douala and Mamfe before his death in 2000.

From his grandfather’s cinema screens in Kumba to Hollywood television screens, Danny’s family story is certainly one worth celebrating. Who knew Peller’s roadside comedy would introduce many people to this Cameroonian connection?
