Salatiel Livenja Bessong was born on the 26th of December, 1987 in Tiko into a devoted Christian family; his father is a pastor. He did his primary and secondary education in Tiko, Souza and Bamenda. He obtained his Advanced Level certificate in 2005 and enrolled into the University of Yaoundé 1 with dreams of becoming a medical doctor. It was during this period that he started music with his friends. He created a band called “Salas Band” where he was the lead singer and drummer, though his greatest passion was songwriting. While in Yaoundé, he mostly directed church choirs and also performed sometimes. He later learned how to play the guitar. Because of his love for music, he dropped medical studies for a less complex field of studies (Zoology). In 2007, he moved to the University of Buea and started working with a college choir known as “Breakthrough Voices” as musical director and songwriter. He first visited a recording studio in 2008 with the Breakthrough Voices to record a gospel album entitled “Lord I’m Sorry” at the M1 Studios in Buea. This experience gave him the desire to become a producer himself and he did most of the keyboards in the album himself. He later became an apprentice producer under Emile Ngumboh of M1 Studios. He did his first beat just a week later for Princess Lyna “La Nouvelle Lecon” in March 2008. He furthered his passion for music by doing his first appearance as a solo artist at the 2009 Mutzig Star competition but didn’t make it beyond the regional finals. He then created the group “Da Thrill” in 2010. They competed in the Nescafé African Revelation and won firstplace in Cameroon and second place at the Pan-African finals in Senegal. With Da Thrill, he did a tour of Cameroon and performed on huge platforms alongside artists like Meiway, La Fouine, Flavour, Kery James, Zaho and Soum Bill. As a producer, he produced 90% of Da Thrill debut album “New Dawn” with the hit single “Je Te Yah Moh”. He has equally produced about 100 albums, more than 3000 songs for more than 300 artists. A few hits have been: “Essele” by Nar6 Pryze; “C’est Rouler” and “Replay” by Petit Champion; “Boom Boom” by One Rocky; Patrick Mboma’s anniversary theme song “Magic Mboma” by Annie Anzouer, Sergeo Polo, Manu Dibango and Henry Njoh; “Ajebota” by West Don; “E Go Beta” by Mr. Leo and several other movie and documentary sounds, amongst thousands both home and abroad. His solo single “Fap Kolo” won the MTN Make The Music contest and this gave him the opportunity to perform at the iFest in 2014 alongside Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Stanley Enow, Daphne, Yemi Alade, Magasco, Skales and so many others. In the space of three months, Salatiel has been able to make a strictly Afropop album “I Am Salatiel” featuring international and Cameroonian big names like Duc-Z, Mr Leo, Sarkodie, General Pype, Charlotte Dipanda, Krotal, Cynthia Morgan, Skales, DJ Neptunez and so many others still to be disclosed. He is founder and CEO of Alpha Better Records based in Buea. For now, he has 4 artists under his label, himself award-winning artist Mr Leo, Askia & Blaise B.
