Stream and Download JAMAN Performed By Mukolah MKL

JAMAN” is an original Wimbum cultural dance born in 1962 in BIH village, Donga Mantung Division of Cameroon’s Northwest Region, created to honor and remember the suffering endured by the local people during German colonization (1884–1916). During this period, villagers faced harsh and brutal treatment, forcing many to flee and seek refuge in caves for survival. The name “JAMAN,” derived from “German,” reflects this painful history, while the dance itself serves as a powerful expression of resilience, memory, and cultural identity. Traditionally performed after the colonial era, “JAMAN” has been revived and brought to wider recognition by folkloric artist and musician Mokulah MKL, preserving its legacy for future generations.
