Today sees 2 of the most decorated Nations in AFCON History go head to head with each other .
The indomitable lions of Cameroon will face the pharaohs of Egypt at the Olembé Stadium in Yaoundé and on paper , this has to be the game of the tournament.
There’s so much history between these 2 sides with one not forgetting that Cameroon won their last AFCON in 2017 by beating Egypt in Gabon 2 – 1
It’s easy to remember that moment but what’s easy to forget is the fact that Cameroon has won 1 of their last 8 matches against Egypt losing 5 times and drawing once
And Given the fact that Egypt are 7 time AFCON Champions, it will be a fatal error to completely underestimate them.
Cameroon are on home soil and have been very dominant in the tournament so far . They are in fine form at the moment as they are unbeaten in their last 9 matches
Egypt however started the tournament in an unconvincing fashion with a loss against Nigeria before stepping up their game in the latter stages of the competition
Conceding 2 goals in 5 matches is very impressive and goes to show how solid they are in defense
While Cameroon has scored a total of 11 goals in the competition and their key players Karl Toko Ekambi & Vincent Aboubakar will want to do more damage up front
Mohammed Salah is also determined to lead Egypt to the finals as he said he won’t leave Cameroon without the trophy and with him being involved in 3 of their 4 goals in the competition, It’s easy to smell danger in his words.
Cameroon is looking to be AFCON Champions for the 6th Time . Egypt is looking to be AFCON Champions for the 8th time but this can happen only happen if the winner of this match knocks out Senegal at the Finals of the competition
But Firstly , One has to Knock out the Other in this Semi Final Game
So here’s our prediction:
It’s Going to be a very tough game at The Olembé Stadium but given the fact that Cameroon has outscored every opponent they have met so far in the Competition, it’s easy to see them knocking Egypt out .
Amel Hegazy who is a pillar for the Egyptian defence will be highly missed and given the absence of their 2 best goalkeepers, there will be a gap in quality in the Egyptian Goal which will be trying to stop the deadliest duo of the competition Karl Toko Ekambi and Vincent Aboubakar
Salah on the other hand is a threat for any team but he can’t do everything on his own
On home soil , Cameroon will get into this game knowing they can repeat the same thing they did to Egypt in Gabon 2017 and will be full of confidence
For the above reasons , we say Cameroon 3 – 1 Egypt
If we had to give a betting tip , it will be Total over 1.5 or Vincent Aboubakar to Score at Anytime
