Douala Based Cameroonian Disc Jockey DJ Choco emerged winner of the 2024 edition of the Ballantine’s True Music Mix Challenge. The talented DJ was crowned winner at the Ballantine’s Battle Rave Night on Sunday February 25, 2024 at Club CAMWATER Bonapriso in Douala. The DJ walked home with a cash prize of 1.000.000 CFA, a certificate from Trace Academia (Trace Cameroon) this year’s official partner of the Ballantine’s True Music Mix Challenge, DJ Choco also receive a turntable and will be the official DJ for Ballantine’s in Cameroon.

The jam-packed event saw fans brand ambassadors Kocee, MIMIE and DJ Labastille as well as partners who came to narrow down the search of the best DJ in Cameroon; Battle of the Cities. The 6 finalists (DJs) after 3 battle rounds displaying their talent were judged on their creativity, technique and ability to connect with the public. While DJ Choco was rated overall best DJ and winner, Buea based DJ Bisou emerged runner up of the competition and also received a cash prize of 500.000 CFA.

Cameroonian singers Ko-c, MIMIE and DJ Labastille Premier are the new brand ambassadors for blended Scotch Whisky Ballantines. The new faces were unveiled in a press conference that took place at the Douala Grand Mall at Studio Djossa on February 9, 2023.

With a goal to Stay True and represent the brand however they can, the new faces of Ballantines are more than ready to carry the brand and add more value to it.

DJ Labastille in an interview said that “It may be official to be a brand ambassador today but the work with Ballantines is one which has been ongoing for years. A lot of hard work and dedication has been put in over the years to see me where I am today. We are going to go a long way with the brand. As for my fellow DJs, this should be an eye opener for you all to work hard and be great.”

MIMIE signing a deal with Ballantines will go down in history to be the first international brand ambassador deal she ever bagged. In an interview, she revealed that the deal will not only bring attention to her but also to others around her. International eyes will be set on her and shall as well cut across other great talents Cameroon has.

UCB’s 50^th anniversary celebrations was not just about having a concert and bringing artistes together to sing and merry. The entire anniversary celebrations started off with celebrating its founding father Joseph Kadji Defosso Fua Toula who passed away on the 23^rd of August 2018 in Johannesbourg, South Africa at the age of 95.

According to a close source, Mimie is leaving Pit Baccardi ‘s Empire Company with the main reason being that she felt exploited especially given the fact that she was one of the main breadwinner’s of the label . She felt used because after giving numerous hit songs like “Faya” , “Ten Ten” & money from performances in some the biggest shows in country, what she had as reward from the label wasn’t enough for her .

It’s with this Ideology that Mimie has decided to quit the label . Whether she is going solo or signing to another label remains a story for another day but as of now , we are witnessing the exit of a star from one the biggest labels in Cameroon

Queen Mimba recruited the services of Blu Nation singer Tzy Panchak and both served us vibes with their collaboration on the song “Jaloux”. Jaloux is a mid-tempo jam that tells us to never pay attention to people who gossip and talk about us behind our backs. Jaloux was produced by Dijay Karl and IVO and the visuals was done by Mr Tcheck. It has gathered 2.2 Million views on YouTube and counting.

7. Watto de Souza – La Fille La

With the wave of the new Mbole genre blowing with full force, Cameroonian youngster Watto de Souza makes it to our list after delivering an exceptional tune titled “La Fille La” produced by Jells production. The audio of the song made it to speakers on June 18, 2021 and the moving pictures premiered on November 12, 2021. Watto de Souza takes us through his neighborhood to tell us about the types of ladies there. Watto de Souza says not all girls are slots as there are some wife material ladies in his “Kwata”. The song has been a huge success in Cameroon and has raised the Mbole bars higher. It is on our number 6 spot on this list and has gathered over 2 million YouTube views.

6. Ko-c – La Galere

The term “La Galère” roughly translated as “Poverty” is Ko-c’s hit song of 2021 released at the fourth quarter 0f 2021 takes our number 5 spot on the TOP 10 Hottest Cameroonian songs of 2021. Ko-c paints a picture and sends a message asking poverty to let him be. The song was widely acclaimed as many could relate to the story. La Galere has been able to sail its way through by recording over 2 million views on YouTube since its release. The song was produced by PhillBill and directed by Mr Tcheck. Prior to dropping “La Galère” in November 2021. Ko-c started the year by warming up his fans with the release of “Chill” the single was so successful it landed him an endorsement deal with the drink “Chill” by Brasseries du Cameroun. Chill was still produced by Chinjong x Chinjong but this time directed by Chuzih.

Prior to the release of her debut album “Black Girl Magic”, Cameroonian sensation Rinyu dropped this smashing single titled “Controller” on April fools day 2021 and since then, she has been able to control her music game. Modern day Makossa and her dulcet voice blends the instrumentals by Dijay Karl and this time, Kwedi Nelson directed the video. Controller has a great success on the social media platform Tik Tok and has gather 5.6 Million views on YouTube. The song sits comfortably on the 4th spot on this countdown.

3. MIMIE – Faya Feat. LOCKO

Singer MIMIE’S musical career after joining Universal Music Africa heightened and spread all over Africa and international boundaries.
