Entertainment Mogul and Rapper Nabil Nabstar Fongod who is proud of having about 14 years of experience in the Media Milieu has been having all the attention directed towards him for the last 24 hours. Nabil out of concern for the growing industry, had a question for the bloggers that went thus. “Bloggers! Whats ur objective? Cause some of the stuff u post about Artist really hurt their carrier. Constructive or destructive? “. The Post made on his facebook account immediately Pulled the attention of almost all the bloggers in the game. We had interesting responses from bloggers such as Mbole Ekaney of TheHotjem.com, Yefon Mainsah of Irepcamer.com, Monique Tina of GlowMonat.com , Valery Atia of Kamerkongossa, and also a huge number of concerned lovers who needed clarification of the unhealthy working relationship between artists and bloggers in the Cameroon Entertainment atmosphere. After a thoughtful and interesting Chat with many, Nabil had a follow up post which is pretty Much a summary of the long chat. Nonetheless, the summary is worth reading and i think if implemented will go a long way to improve the bloggers and artists working relationship. Without any iota of doubt, this could actually help facilitate the growth of both the bloggers and the artists. Have a read below and feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
“”””NOTE THIS IS NOT PERSONAL OR TO A PARTICULAR PERSON OR GROUP OF PEOPLE IT’S MY FAIR OBSERVATION. THESE VIEWS ARE MY OPINION AND DO NOT IN ANYWAY REFLECT THE VIEWS OF ALL BLOGGERS ARTIST ACTORS OR MEDIA PERSONALITIES..
NEITHER IS IT FOR EVERY ONE, FEW PEOPLE MAY READ IT TO THE END BUT THOSE THAT DO WILL DEFINATELY LEARN A THING OR TWO LIKE I HAVE IN THE PAST 24 HOURS. .
In the last 24hrs I played the role of a blogger to all bloggers.. and came up with a few suggestions to better the relationship between bloggers and artist (artist here refers to Entertainers in general) to foster growth in the indusrty.
Many pertinent points where raised on my post and inbox on this subject. I learnt a lot from bloggers and I will like to share with my fellow Entertainers.
My First observation is over the years bloggers have lost respect for the Artist and Artist for bloggers.. it’s like a Tom and Jerry relationship, a love and hate affair. Artist feel bloggers don’t do them justice and bloggers like wise. That not withstanding, some bloggers and artists actually have a very healthy relationship. On the flip side, it also came to my attention that SOME of such good relationships are based on personal interest.
Never the less I think it’s only normal that people find a personal attachment to an artist and motivation to dedicate time to work with the artist or for the artist. Even tho it’s argued that this should be in the case of a closer collaborator like a PR or a manager,.. never the less lots of bloggers are artist PRs. So the question is where is the ethical line drawn between being a PR for an Entertainer with out that job influencing the content published on their blog.
Noted also was that lots of bloggers take their personal issues with artist to their blogs. They publish derogatory and hurtful articles about artists but never bother to promote their work.
We all agree that there should be a balance between the gossips and stories on artists, and their works. Like if a blog publishes a story on an artist with a juicy scandal, the end of the post should be accompanied by the artist work, (a video, model picture, movie trailer etc) just like I acknowledge some bloggers are doing already. That way there is a juicy scoop for the audience that drives traffic to the blog and the artist work is valourised. It’s a win win situation for both parties.
A VERY IMPORTANT POINT for Artists and their PR team is; when an article is published about your artist and you have an issue with it or another side of the story, rather than ranting and starting beef on FB contact the blog and request for an interview or send a write up with your side of the story and the blogger will always post the follow up. There shouldn’t be beef stewed from bloggers posts that artist don’t like but rather clarification on the blog it came from.
On bloggers and fee and money; I think if Bloggers start looking at the big picture, they will see there is a lot of money to be made from heavy traffic on the site.. NOT SAYING all blogging should be FREE but if bloggers concentrate more on the possibilities to make millions from views, adverts and the clicks on their blogs rather than the little tens of thousands they can get from Artists it will reflect even on the quality and quanity and frequency of their content. When you think big everything you do gets big. I think we need seminars to educate bloggers on ways of making money as a blogger because the objective is to make money not to get the artists attention. Only then could bloggers make a living out of blogging.
Also realised that sometimes Bloggers ignorantly cause conflict between artist / Actors / Models .. healthy competition is always good for the industry, but sometimes it brings rivalry amongst artists and starts a cold war with two people who really have no personal issues. I must say most bloggers are oblivious to this, even tho some are malicious about it.
Bloggers need the players of the industry for content and the players need the Bloggers platform to Show case their art. Bloggers use controversy as a tool to drag traffic to their site and the players profit from this controversy to stay relevant in the industry.
Bloggers need recognition as much as the artist dose. The credibility and growth of blogs rely a big deal on repost, shoutouts and shares from our stars.. let’s respect their work and give them their due credit.
On a less serious note I realised that even tho bloggers keep telling artists to have a thick skin to what they post, I was surprised by how emotional lots of bloggers got over what I posted. I had mad fun with that.. bloggers you guys can now breathe the Nabil blogger storm is over. ??? but .. the saga continues.. ???
To conclude, separating the real from the fake could be judged by how many bloggers find it necessary to share this on their blogs to enlighten the indusrty on my 1cent to how we could all grow successfully.
Let’s join hands together for a better future..
Papa God Bless our hustle!!
