“Cleanliness Is The Mindset”: Spaco Lee Calls On Buea Denizens To Take Action, Clean-Up Campaign Kicks Off

Buea-based comedian and influencer Ngamfon Derick Ndakwe, popularly known as Spaco Lee, believes keeping Buea clean starts with a change in people’s mindset. “Cleanliness is the mindset. America is America because of the mindset . Than to be blaming the Government, ley is put our force see how we can make it” he said during the city-wide clean-up campaign in Buea on Wednesday October 7.

Spaco Lee has been taking action himself by volunteering every week to clear blocked gutters and remove waste from the streets. His efforts formed part of a wider campaign launched by the Buea Council and the Divisional Officer to improve hygiene and sanitation across the city.

The three-month campaign was launched at Bongo Square, bringing together hundreds of volunteers, community leaders, transport unions, tricycle riders and NGOs involved in environmental activities. South West Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai also attended the launch.

Buea Mayor David Mafani Namange said the campaign is aimed at making Buea clean again. He called on residents to take part, stressing that keeping the city clean requires everyone’s effort.

Divisional Officer Abba Abdouraman said the campaign will also focus on educating residents about proper waste disposal and recycling, particularly plastic waste, which remains a major pollutant in the city.

For Spaco Lee, the message goes beyond one clean-up exercise. His weekly volunteer work shows that keeping Buea clean is not only the responsibility of authorities but also a duty that begins with individuals.

With the campaign expected to run for three months, the real test will be whether residents can turn the clean-up effort into a daily habit.

In 2018, at just 8 years old, Cameroonian kid rapper Kowan emerged as the winner of the 237Showbiz Music Competition, taking home a cash prize of 425,000 CFA francs and earning the opportunity to collaborate with Cameroonian music star Daphne.

The collaboration was recorded and the music video was shot five years ago. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, the project could not be released at the time. Today, we are finally putting out the video to honour the promise made during the competition, fulfill the prize attached to Kowan’s victory, and set the records straight. The video was directed by 237Showbiz Studios  and the audio produced by Mccoy TWAP and Eno On The Trck.   

Five years later, the wait is over. The promised collaboration is finally here.

BRIDGED: The Cameroonian Drama Asking the Devastating Question, “Would You Choose Yourself or Your Twin?”

What would you do if the person standing between you and the life you deserve was your own twin?

A family torn apart by one secret

The film opens in a suffocating shack, where Tom, a broken and desperate father, walks away from his pregnant wife, Melody, convinced that he has failed his family.

Melody eventually gives birth to twin girls. But instead of becoming the beginning of a new chapter, their arrival sets in motion a secret that will shape their lives for years to come.

With a whispered secret to Dorian, Melody makes a decision that ultimately destroys her.

Separated from one another, the twins grow up as complete strangers, living radically different lives.

Phina grows into a ruthless corporate executive who sees weakness as a choice. She has power, wealth and influence, but beneath that seemingly unshakable exterior lies a past she does not fully understand.

Dorian’s life takes the opposite direction.

After her father dies, her cruel uncle throws her out of the family home and reveals a devastating truth: Dorian is not legally part of the family.

In a single brutal moment, she loses her home, her identity and the security she once knew.

But the biggest revelation is still to come.

When the paths of the two sisters eventually cross, years of secrets, resentment and unanswered questions begin to surface, forcing a family to confront a past that someone desperately tried to bury.

Meet the filmmaker: N.R. Seehofer

Behind BRIDGED is N.R. Seehofer (Supernatural), also known as Seehofer Roland, a Cameroonian filmmaker, writer, actor, acting coach and entrepreneur with more than two decades of experience in the entertainment industry.

With 24+ years in the industry and 16 directed films, Seehofer has built a career both in front of and behind the camera.

His acting credits include films such as Black Vampire, VOWS, Rose on the Grave, Tenacity, Vain Glory, The Unknown, Fight Alone, Bishop, My Community, Don’t Blink, Half Heaven, A Little Lie and Defect.

His television credits include appearances in productions such as Bad Angel, SAMBA, Apple for 2, as well as South African productions Rhythm City and The Queen, among others.

One of his notable projects was Half Heaven (2022), which became the first Cameroonian film to screen in Nigerian cinemas, with screenings across cinemas in Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon. The film was also selected for the 96th Academy Awards (Oscars) submission cycle and later became available on Amazon Prime.

Seehofer’s work has also earned recognition, including Best Supporting Actor Africa at the Nollywood Golden Awards in 2023.

He later wrote, directed and starred in Defect (2025), which featured at the Power24 International Film Festival in 2026.

With BRIDGED, Seehofer returns once again as both writer and director, continuing his work in developing stories rooted in African experiences.

Eweli Helen: Producer and Executive Producer

The film is produced by Eweli Helen, a Cameroonian model, entrepreneur and media producer, and the founder and CEO of Eweli Entertainment, a company active in film production, fashion and pageantry.

Eweli Helen has also built a filmography that includes Ceaser (2016), A Little Lie A Little Kill (2017), The Entitled (2018), Defect (2025) and now BRIDGED (2026).

Her work extends beyond filmmaking. She has participated in runway shows including Afric Collection, Annual Show Fashion Week and FIAFA, while her pageantry background includes being a Miss Cameroon 2010 finalist, Winner of Miss Diligent Africa, and 2nd Runner Up Miss West Africa Cameroon.

Her involvement in BRIDGED adds another chapter to her growing work within Cameroon’s creative and entertainment industry.

A new chapter for Cameroonian storytelling

Bridged arrives at a time when Cameroonian filmmakers continue to push their stories beyond traditional platforms and toward wider African and international audiences.

Rather than relying solely on spectacle, the film places its focus on human relationships, family secrets and emotional conflict — themes that can resonate far beyond Cameroon.

With N.R. Seehofer behind the camera and Eweli Helen leading the production, BRIDGED brings together two creatives with experience across acting, filmmaking, production, fashion and entertainment.

And at the center of it all are two sisters whose lives were changed before they were even old enough to understand why.

Putting an end to rumors that have made people talk across digital platforms, the leadership of the Southwest Manyu Cocoa Farmers Cooperative has firmly dismissed viral claims alleging that its President gives out millions weekly in backdoor customs payments.

For days, social media corridors have been very active with fabricated stories claiming that Chief Tabe Bessong, President and General Manager of the Southwest Manyu Cocoa Farmers Cooperative, was spending huge sums of money behind the scenes.

Specifically, anonymous online posts alleged that the cooperative was sending 15 million CFA francs every single week to the Head of the South West Customs Sector, alongside a separate 70 million CFA francs handed over to the Director General of Customs in Yaoundé as a bribe.

In a direct response that has finally cleared the air of misinformation, the cooperative’s leadership stepped forward over the weekend to set the record straight, calling the rumors “an orchestrated smear campaign designed to dent hard-earned reputations and throw mud at a booming agricultural sector.”

The clearing of the air became the main topic of discussion during the weekend installation ceremony of Difang Roger as President of the Bamenda Road Axis Cocoa Union.

Surrounded by local chiefs, elated farmers, and cooperative members who came out in their numbers, the leadership used the platform to address the elephant in the room.

Speaking plainly so that every ordinary farmer and everyday reader could understand the reality, cooperative officials emphasized that business is not done in the shadows.

Tabe Bessong Rejects Claims of Weekly 15 Million Customs Payment

The Southwest Manyu Cocoa Farmers’ Cooperative is now pushing back against claims that its President, Chief Tabe Bessong, paid millions of Franc CFA every week to customs authorities.
The Cooperation describes the claims as false and says they do not reflect any transaction authorized, recorded or carried out by the institution. This feedback comes amid reports and social media publications alleging that Chief Tabe Bessong paid 15 Million Frs CFA weekly to the southwest customs boss, with other versions of the claim putting the alleged payments at 38 and 70 Million Frs CFA.

In a press release issued by the office of the SMCFC, the institution said it had taken note of the publications and wanted to set the record straight.

According to the statement, neither the cooperative nor its officials had at any point, witnessed, authorized, documented transaction in any form allegedly carried out by the President with the General of customs.

Chief Tabe Bessong on the other hand presents the claims as fake news and an attempt to ruin his reputation.

In this regard, the Cooperation has issued a caution in the handling of the matter and says the appropriate authorities have been informed. It has also warned that legal measures may be pursued against anyone found responsible for publishing and spreading what is considered defamatory .

POISON IN OUR MÈCHES: How Synthetic Hair Sold to Black Women (also in Cameroon) Is Loaded with Cancer-Causing Chemicals and Lead

From the busy salons in Mokolo and Marché Central to neighbourhood hairstylists across Douala, Yaoundé, Buea, and Bamenda, installing mèches, whether for rastas, knotless braids, or twists is a regular routine for millions of Cameroonian women. It is affordable, practical, and saves natural hair from daily stress. But a shocking laboratory investigation reveals that the synthetic extensions packed in our local beauty shops carry dangerous, unregulated poisons.

The Alarming Test Results

A laboratory testing investigation by Consumer Reports analyzed synthetic braiding hair fibers commonly imported and sold worldwide, including the fiber types widely distributed across Central Africa. The findings are alarming:

100% Contained Cancer-Causing Chemicals: Every single brand tested positive for hazardous chemical compounds known to cause cancer.

Massive Lead Levels: 9 out of 10 products contained heavy lead, exceeding safe health limits by 600%.

Dangerous Fumes and Irritants: All tested fibers emitted volatile organic compounds (VOCs)—industrial chemicals that irritate the lungs and skin.

Why the Risk Is Higher in Cameroon

In our tropical climate—especially under the intense heat and humidity of coastal cities like Douala or the dry heat up north—scalp sweat and open pores speed up chemical absorption. When synthetic hair sits tightly bound to the scalp for four to six weeks, body heat and natural oils break down the chemical coatings on the fibers, allowing toxins to seep directly into the skin.

Furthermore, imported synthetic hair bundles rarely undergo rigorous chemical testing before hitting open-air markets. Because these fibers are sold as accessories rather than cosmetics, they bypass strict health inspections.

The Truth Behind the “Mèche Itch”

In Cameroon, it is common to hear women complain about intense burning, severe itching, and bumps on the nape or scalp just days after fixing mèches. For years, this was blamed on tight braiding or sensitive skin, and treated simply with menthol hair food, methylated spirit, or oils.

The reality is far more serious: that burning sensation is often a direct reaction to industrial chemical coatings and flame retardants. Prolonged exposure can trigger migraines, persistent scalp inflammation, and chronic internal toxic buildup.

How to Protect Your Health in Cameroon

You do not have to abandon protective styling entirely, but taking precautions is critical:

The ACV Detox Bath: Before taking your packs of mèches to the salon, soak the hair in a basin of warm water mixed with one cup of Apple Cider Vinegar (available in supermarkets like Dovv, Carrefour, Mahima, or local pharmacies) for 20–30 minutes. You will see a cloudy white film rise to the top—that is the chemical coating. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and let it air dry completely before braiding.

Opt for Traditional & Natural Styles: Revisit traditional African threading (coiffure au fil), natural hair cornrows, or flat twists using natural shea butter and palm kernel oil.

Invest in Reusable Human Hair: While human hair extensions require a higher upfront cost, they contain no synthetic flame retardants and can be washed and reused for years.

Beauty should never put your long-term health at risk. It is time for Cameroonian women to demand clean beauty products, and to take simple steps to detox every single pack of hair before it touches the scalp.
