The song “Njaka” came in as a shock to the music Industry given that we hardly listen to such emotions which expressed bravery ,confidence & rebellion

This song was meant to demand respect from Industry Heads and it was finally given when the Lyrical Njorku Mic Monsta co-signed and approved their art with a verse on Njaka remix . From then on , A few singles like Serious, Overdose ,Afrorap & Days Like these showed that these 3 rappers aren’t just rappers , but are also the 3 horsemen of Camair Hip Hop .

Award shows recognized their efforts in pushing the rap culture in Cameroon as they have won Best Group of the year numerous times .Uncle Cales , Edico & Wazxey have gained the attention & respect of rap lovers in Cameroon with their dedication, work rate, consistency & patience .

When asked why they do rap music , Edico replied

” for the streets. We try to paint a picture of every day realities in the only way we know .through rapping. We want to make the game more relatable to every person in Cameroon .

Mic Monsta & The Torch City Crew

Ngoma’s “All les Days” is unarguably one of the best hip hop projects to have graced the Cameroonian music scene this year. It comprised of great lyrics, great beats, a very neatly done video and very effective promotion. Almost the entire month of July was full of Ngoma’s track and it pulled a lot of attention to him and for one second he seemed to be aware of that, as such a lot of us thought he will use the notoriety of the moment to cement his place in the hearts of Cameroonian hip-hop fans as one of the most prolific acts in that genre of music. 

For a moment he seemed to be living up to the expectations as he came up with his brand of breakfast cereals christened “All Les Days Flakes“, this was applauded and it increased his leverage among fans of Cameroonian music, thus raising expectations as to him dropping more music to keep his fans entertained. But the Awing native clearly had other plans. After “All les day” he has returned to his “Mangosi-like slumber, keeping his fans starved of his music and even his breakfast cereal seems to be at a standstill.

Well, this seems to be Ngoma’s trademark, he had once revealed that he is a perfectionist and will rather do one good thing which we could be infinitely proud of than do a lot of things which we might get disappointed at. So this might be his way of sticking to his principles. All the same, the interest of every artistes is always his public and if Ngoma’s public is asking for more, it might make a lot of sense to respond positively to their call but “any man get ei style”.

Who is an independent artiste? An independent artiste is one who has no deal with any record label or production house and as such he or she is the sponsor of all his activities, he or she can be aided by well-wishers but they are bound by no legal contract and they do not enjoy the protection of any cooperate body.Many may wonder why this is being brought up, probably because nobody has ever thought it wise to make a plate out of the odds of independent artistes in the Cameroonian music industry; well we will look at that today. We once came around to analyze the capability of our home based record labels to harness the talent in our industry as there are a good number of talented Cameroonian artistes signed to foreign records and yet there is still a great number of artistes who struggle with their careers, employing their personal means and hence evolving at a slow pace. Artistes who identify as independent mostly embark on a do it yourself approach to their music, from recording, production, video conception and promotion. They also do a lot of outsourcing especially at the level of production and making of videos. But in Cameroon, being an independent artiste can be an everyday battle.

One of the greatest battles of independent artistes is the financing of their music, mostly the burden of sponsorship for independent artistes rest on the artiste solely, they may once in a while get help from well-wishers, but at the base they sponsor the better part of their music. This battle goes from recording, as few of them have ready access to studio facilities, through production and extends down to promotion. Albeit, these artistes are not void of talent. Among them are geniuses who have enough potential to put Cameroon on the map with their music, but they find themselves most of the time crumbling under the heavy weight of financial difficulties.

Also, collaborations have proven very effective in the growth process of all artistes, but negotiating collaborations in the Cameroonian music industry without a record label in Cameroon has proven to be very tough. With these hindrances one may think that independent artistes have no future, but an old adage says “When there is a will there is a way”, and with respect to it, we can see some independent artistes thriving and heading to the top with their releases, like Ngoma, Skidi Boy and Askia who recently joined the queue.

Ngoma who was immediately crowned by the fans as Cameroon’s most branded rapper shortly after they watching the spectacular visuals put together by Shammak Alharamadji still take their stand since its release date.

According to UK based Cameroonian blogger Bandy Kiki, the song All Les Day including the rapper’s previous releases has placed him miles ahead of his peers in the industry. She claims that, the rapper’s new trending single is enough proof that he is not just another Generic Cameroonian Rapper.

This obviously looks like she is shading other Cameroonian rappers and most definitely because of the pace Ngoma has set when it comes to branding and realising mind blowing hit songs.
