And it is for this reason that I present to you the Best Cameroonian rappers of 2017 based on the music (Albums, EP, Lyrics, Hit Singles), Power moves, Consistency,Buzz and shows.

10)  Blueprint Hakeem.

Bamenda Based Rapper Blueprint Hakeem has been putting out  strictly Rap Content All year. His Excuse my English Project  is something we can’t forget in a hurry because it is one of the best projects that was released this year. Although void of a hit track as of now, His Cold Like Alaska Album and his #10Days10Song challenge has set him up high when it comes to rappers with good content and good delivery this year. Hakeem has seen some growth this year with his Fix Up Your Lives Cover creating some buzz on the Media. Hakeem Occupies spot 10 on my list.

9) Ngoma

On the number nine spot  is Mangosi Crooner Ngoma.  Over the years the young and versatile rap act eventhough without the label has been able to mold himself to be  a huge asset and rapper zo look up to. Ngoma produced the biggest Rap song of the year, inviting other rap acts such as Kikoh and Nernos. Even-though he had only one single all year, his hit single was heavy enough to let him occupy this spot.

8) Skidi Boy

At the number eight spot we have the Cameroonian Street King Skidi Boy. The Kumba born rapper has been one of the realest huzzlers of the year. Even-though without a label or sponsor, the young rapper has been able to grow a fanbase and create a supporting niche for himself . His ability to use hardcore street slang’s has created for him his unique style that will forever be remembered in years to come. Skidi boy in 2017 has released singles such as  Encore ft Gomez,  Nanga Mboko, Terminator, Bloggers  and I no Dey me dey. Spitting bars back to back and making use of the events happening around.

7) Mic Monsta

Yes! this list is not near complete if  Mic Monsta is not listed . The Mayor of Punchline District  although had some cold months did see some improvements in his career recently with the release of  his much appreciated Work, Mic Monsta The EP. His EP was highly rated by many Camer Music Industry fans , making it easy for the Rapper to make it to the Top 10.

6) Mink’s

Mink’s is now one of the biggest boys in town who earn alot from his rap business. Mink’s has been able to create his own  rap style by introducing much comedy into his lyrics. The rapper in 2017 has released singles such as Levicus, Le Number, Gigolo with numerous collaborations (Mimbayeur, Power, On T’a Lu)  and  an album Tranches 2 vie released ending 2016 has made him one of the Biggest rappers of 2017 . He boast his rap career with his funny lines and he is now listed among the most bankable rappers in Cameroon today. Mink’s occupies spot 6

5) Boy Tag

Boy Tag’s introduction into the Rap scene came as a surprise to many. His first feature for the year was in the Viral single Showbiz by Uprising Rapper  M-pro that had many appreciate his talent. Not to long after that One of Cameroons biggest Record Labels  Stevens Music Ent.  announced his signature to the Record label with  2 Freestyles that went viral and set him among the very best Rappers of 2017. Although there is the need for more content from the Rapper, Boy tag has done a great job with his singles Mignoncite without forgetting his recently released Njoka and Sauvagerie.  Boy tag  merits spot 5 and he is  a Hotjem we need to watch out for in 2018.

4) Ko-C

Cameroons fastest Rapper and Big Dreams Ent’s Hotjem Ko-C has been very outstanding in 2017. Ko-C AkA Kossss is an industrious rapper just like Boy Tag and has been noted for his very fast manner of delivery.

Ko-C has registered quite an impressive success in 2017, His singles Bollo C’est Bollo, 1 love you ft Locko, Laisse moi Passer . His covers, and rap freestyles filtered him from the rest in the competition.

3) Ebako

USA based Cameroonian rapper Ebako has made some reasonable waves win 2017. His Rap project Camericanidol3 is amoungst the top Mixtapes/Projects released this year. Ebako released rap songs such as Guap feat Stanley Enow, Greener, Camericana ,Versace remix ft Mic Monsta and many other amazing Rap songs on his Project. Ebako is easily one of Cameroons most Finnest Export in the Diaspora. Many seem to ignore artists in the Diaspora, but in my opinion Ebako is one of Cameroon’s Best rappers at the moment.

2) Tenor

Tenor,  is one of the youngest Cameroonian Urban artists and is currently among the most popular rappers in Cameroon.  The Rapper who has wowed Rap fans with his fast style of rap with his Comedy punchlines  has made him grow his fanbase with his back to back releases. The Universal Music Africa Starboy, has released countless singles in 2017 such as Bad things, Kabangondo and numerous collaborations. The young superstar occupies spot 2 on my list.

1)Jovi

Jovi is that indigenous rapper that needs no introduction but for the sake of some of us i will be introducing the industrious rapper . He is popularly known as Jovi Le Monstre with the name Le Monstre being his producer tag name.

When it come to typical Cameroonian rap songs, you have to give it up for the New Bell Music Rapper.  His third studio album 16Wives was arguably one of the Best albums of the year 2017 and one of the best alltime Rap albums. His album was best selling on platforms such as Bandcamp for a couple of weeks, and Jovi become the First  Cameroonian Rapper to Headline a show in Eastern Africa(Nyege Nyege Fest).

His singles such as Ou Meme, 20 Ba, Devil Nodi Sleep and his Yaje Vol. 1 EP has made his work stand out among the other Cameroonian rappers in 2017.

Other Worthy Mentions.
Kikoh: Kikoh did great in 2017, especially with his Calamity Cypher Series. His  guest feature on Mangosi and later on his single Deposer  made him  a strong contestant for the top 10.

Young Holiday: Bamenda based Rapper Young Holiday created some buzz this year with his Holiweek EP that was released some months ago. Eventhough most of his fans come from the english speaking part, The Poetic rap prodigy proved to many that he will be such a big deal in some years to come. Watch out For Young.. H

Ndimofor Pascal: Pascal is easily one of the best Cameroonian Male Rappers in recent years, due to  his Unique Storytelling rap style.  since he quit New Bell Music, there has been the need for the Rapper to maintain that consistency and Quality on the songs he releases. His singles Paapi and Benediction were not heavy enough to earn him a spot on this years top 10.

Dynamic duo Rythmz  launch their 2017 comeback mightily with  a new club banger  titled ‘Boboloh’ this soul touching song  comes after ‘Madame tout le monde’ featuring one of Cameroons hottest artist at the moment Mr Leo. ‘Boboloh’ is a song you definitely want to get on your playlist.

9. M Pro ft Tag – Showbiz

M Pro is an upcoming rapper signed to Stevens Music showing signs of a talented act to watch out for. His song ‘Showbiz’ ft Tag involves most artists and even non artist that have made a name for themselves in the Cameroon music industry. This song pictures their lives without  fame and money. have a listen and enjoy.

8. Zinnia ft Askia – Madam Makossa

Zinnia is here again with this enjoyable tune graced with  sick rap lines from the Alpha betta records  ever amazing and alluring Queen Askia. This song is a party starter. Get partying!.

7. Vreezyville ft Mr Leo – All I want

The song ‘All I want’ is a master piece by Vreezyville an American based Cameroonian artist featuring with  multiple award winner Mr Leo. Vreezyville’s song is a blend of love, betrayal and reconciliation . Hope this brightens your day. Enjoy.

6. Ewube – Choleh Me (Prod. Magic Finger Records)

Ewube is on again with another dance floor shaker. The song ‘Choleh me’ means ‘let me be’ in a local Cameroonian pidgin parlance. Actually in this song, Ewube is telling people who only see evil in what people do, to mind their business . The Dancehall Queen keeps unleashing those bangers one at a time. SONOLIVE PROD’s   newest signee made a massive reintroduction into his new label with the release of  his afro rnb track “Yamo” a sure massive reintroduction into his new label with the release of his afro Rnb track ‘Yamo’, the song which was gladly received by fans. ‘Yamo’ in a mother tongue in cameroon means ‘enjoyment’. This song therefore is testifying to the fact that money makes life enjoyable.

3. Ebako – Camericana

Ebako aka Camericanidol dropped the first video titled  ‘Camericana’  off his third Mixtape titled Camericandidol 3 set be released on March 11th. Camericana is an up tempo Hiṕ Hop track with a perfect mix of Pidgin, english and french to give the listeners a perfect mood to vibe to. Produced by Draeboy Camericana is definitely one of the tracks that will make 2017 a memorably year.

2. Jovi – Ou meme

Jovi the ‘ Mboko god’ is up again with  a ‘ bikusti- like piece ‘Ou meme’. This song was released few days after the release of his album ’16 wives’ and happens to be one of the songs off the album.Enjoy this culturally inflicted and perfectly scripted piece of art.

Deecy might be new to some few but he has been around for way too long. his effort in the game makes it look like he has been around for decades. With just one EP(Action EP) and an album titled Sure Thoughts Are Real Things, the Indigenous Buea based rapper has been able to proof his lyrical prowess in tracks such as  Ngombey, Mami play play, B.I.R etc.The name might come as a surprise to many but he is lyrically fit, thereby occupying this spot as the 10th best Cameroonian rapper.

9. Mink’s

Mink’s signed to Ach4life  is  number Nine on our List of Best Cameroonian Rappers. Mink’s Career kickstarted with his single Panthere2.0 and later on blossomed   with his viral single Le gars La est laid , with 1 studio album titled Traches2Vie. Mink’s has been able to ink his name amongst the best in the game. Using his sense of humor he is able to relate to  very common things, which makes his music lovable by both the old and the young. Minks has a great career ahead, he is therefore our 9th best Cameroonian rapper.

8. Dareal

Dareal signed to Sonolive prod  is  number eight on our List of Best Cameroonian Rappers. The energy behind Dareal’s voice during his delivery is what makes the initial impact and catches your attention. His 2nd strength is his flow and even though he has his favorite set of flows, they are very effective and enjoyed by many. Dareal before signing for Sonolive Prod, was made popular by French Kind with songs like Dinosaure before he powering up other releases such as Au sol, Ca a Cuit and  Francoise Foning. Dareal is therefore the 8th best Cameroonian rapper.

7. Ebako

Cameroon born and USA raised rapper Ebako aka Camericanidol is  number seven on our List of Best Cameroonian Rappers. With 2 mixtapes out Camericanidol1 and 2 he has been able to make his name known. He has popular songs such as Kunta Kinte, Arabian Night, Feel like a Don and recently Versace. Ebako has gained massive increase in his fanbase in 2016, connecting with his motherland and hence acting like a huge boost to his career.  With all this juicy profile, Ebako is therefore the 7th best Cameroonian rapper..

6. Tenor

Tenor AKA Mr Le Fiang Le way Le Yamo is  number six on our List of Best Cameroonian Rappers.. Well, he is a favorite of many at the moment. The ace rapper came into full limelight in year 2016. His singles such as Do le Dab skyrocked his career to a brand new level. After Do le Dab, Tenor Remixed Mink”s Le Gar la est laid that gained massive buzz on social media.  Right now Tenor is the rapper everyone wants to see perform; He’s been getting booked for many shows in the country. The young lad has quite some other songs to support his position such as Nathalie, Attention les petits and Kaba Ndongo. He definitely is the 6th  Best Cameroonian rapper on our list.

5. Maahlox

Maahlox  Le Vibeur, signed to label Zone2Rap is number 5 on our List of Best Cameroonian Rappers..  Maahlox is the most censored urban artist in Cameroon, and even the censoring does not stop his shine.  His wordplay mixed with very common street slangs makes his music worth listening to. He has a couple of hit songs such as Ca sort comme ca sort ,Tuer pour Tuer, Ca ne rit pas,  Tu montes Tu Descends , tu est dedans, Les Sorcies , and also  many other singles. He is able to divert from rap to singing in some of his songs making him very versatile and have a lot of content to rap about. Maahlox’s style of rap has branded him to what most music Pundits call a Situation Artist.   Maahlox’s hardwork expecially in 2016 has been enormous. Although some fans criticize his explicit lyrics , He got that juice and can pull up numbers when ever there is a show.

4. Stanley Enow

Stanley Enow AKA King Kong signed to Motherland Empire is number Four on our List of Best Cameroonian Rappers. He rose to prominence in 2013 with the single “Hein Pere.” He is the Sole artist signed to his own label Motherland Empire. With only 1 studio album titled Soldier Like my Papa, Enow is the Cameroonian urban artist with the most awards.  After Hein pere, Enow has been faced with a tough task to keep up with Consistency with his  releases such as Tumbu Boss, Njama Njama Cow, Work Hard , Follow me. Eventhough  Highly criticized by music fans for his poor lyrics, he can still pull everything up by getting collabo’s to pull up his numbers. He is the only  Cameroonian rapper with the most international collaborations, his album had rappers such as Ice prince(Yours) , Njama Njama Cow remix ft Sarkodie, Hein pere remix by F.A.B, Biz Ice we are hip hop and finally Bounce ft AKA and Locko. The weight of Enow’s singles alone without any international collaboration has not been heavy enough to earn him spot 1 , 2 or 3.

3. Mic Monsta

Mic Monsta Aka Mayor of Punchline district  signed to Kreef Entertainment is number three on our List of Best Cameroonian Rappers..  Mic Monsta  has been known for his strong lyrical game even before his hit single #Fear. He first got into the spotlight when he dropped his verse on Bwam by Jovi, after which was followed by #Nword remix and KingKong remix which he featured with Buea based Artist Crispy respectively. Mic Monsta through this releases have earned a lot of respect and love from music lovers around the globe. His lyrical prowess, energy and power in his delivery is just on steroids when you compare him to other rappers in Cameroon. He is known by many as the Mayor of the Punchline district, he is Cameroon”s Kendrick Lamar. He has earned a well deserved and safe spot. Listen to his latest single Amani here

2. Pascal

Ndimofor Pascal Aka Yung King signed to New Bell Music is number Two on our List of Best Cameroonian Rappers.. Pascal made his unique introduction into the Cameroonian hip-hop scene in the track “Check sense” featuring  with Jovi among other songs like  “No waiting” , “Epic Ish”, Voici Ca etc in his first EP titled Work Dey Vol1, . His second Ep came pregnant with sick bars cementing him as one of the best in the game. Volume 2 had good track such as  Kana Kana, King Don cam, Elevate, Manka..etc .  Since then he has matched on with the inevitable challenges posed with being a rapper, hence generating massive hype in not so much  time in the game.The young talent has made a lot of impressions though with just 1 album and 2 Ep’s. His album WorkDey3 is one of Cameroon’s all time best rap albums. He has been a model for other young talents to follow or keeping the pace, with Pascal in the game we always know what to expect, exciting lyrics with flows reflecting his style and attitude.

1.JOVI

Number 1 is none other than New Bell Music Boss Jovi. Jovi s career deserves a book on its own, with a title like *How to become a rapper*. Jovi  has actually proven himself to be an A-list rapper in the Cameroonian music industry. His talent is pure, Jovi Raps for the people, it doesn’t get better than that.In Cameroon you cant talk about rap without mentioning Jovi , it is  a crime that requires public flogging. He has successfully branded his style of rap into a rap Genre  recognized internationally known as Mboko. His career started under Mumak when he released the ground breaking song that kickstarted his career titled Don for Kwat, the song was loved and played all over in 2011. After Don 4 kwat, there was CASH, then one of the most remixed African rap songs  Et p8 koi,  his single Bastard and the list goes on. The strength of a good rapper is determined LARGELY by the songs he releases after dropping a hit song. After this releases, it has been like a track tour, switching it up anytime with Every song having a new vibe . He’s discovered most of the greatest talents in the industry today. He discovered Pascal, Nobody thought Pascal could rap till Jovi let him have a verse on Check sense. Jovi  has been putting music out for the past 6-7  years and the music keeps getting realer and better. He has the highest amount of released songs as a rapper. Best flow, best lyrics although sometimes explicit, pure beats produced by him . He is the best rapper till date to the music industry. He has a song for whatever mood your in, If you need to get pumped up it is just right that you listen to him. Jovi is one of the few Cameroonian artist that is difficult to book because of his price tag, if the 6 figures is not right then forget it. The struggle to book him is simply based on the amount of work he puts in,  he has a lot of classics which fans love, he can have a show for 4 hours straight and there will still be songs left. He is the Cameroonian rap Messiah.

Cameroonian born USA based Rapper Ebako signed to Famos Ent, took to social media to express his frustration on how Cameroonian artists don’t collaborate with each other. Majority of the Artists are trying to do it all by themselves. The big question which sometimes one is compelled to ask is, How Cameroonian are you? Nowadays, Majority of Cameroonian alleged Rappers are busy doing covers for the already popular song Panda by Designer, how does that help anyone? instead of doing remix’s or covers of amazing songs from Cameroon, they are just joining the massive population on promoting an already popular American song. But then the fun part is, they will be all over social media ranting about how Cameroonians don’t support their own product.   Who is Ebako? How did you come up with the name Camericanidol?.

(A) Easy, I’m a Cameroonian born Rapper who moved to the Unites States at a very young age. My family members listened to all kinds of music when I was a baby but Hip Hop is the genre that grasp my attention so that’s the genre I picked to cultivate my talent with. Since I’m a Cameroonian living in America and everyone who has heard my music know that I go hard, two years ago I decided to add a A.K.A. to my name which is “Camerican idol” but spelled “Camericanidol”

okay amazing.  Are you currently signed to a Music Label?
(A) Right now, FamosENT & I have a verbal contract but nothing has been signed yet. The C.E.O. Aka Famos Amos invest in my music Career as of right now but we haven’t signed any contract. He is also one of my best friends so If bigger labels come knocking, I got his back as much as he has mines.

 What do you think about the Cameroon Music Industry? Who are your top 5 Artist at the moment? And who will you love to do a featuring with?
(A) The Cameroonian music industry is amazing because there is so much talent but not too much exposure but that’s changing as we speak. My top five Cameroonian Artist right now will be me ofcourse me… Ebako AKA Camericanidol as number one, Jovi, Stanley, Magasco & Mic Monsta from Kumba, Na to fear!!! Lol. I’m also from Kumba so I feel really proud artist are emerging from there. I’ll like to do a feature with all of the good Artist in Cameroon. The politics really don’t apply to me since I’m in the US but I think if they wanna come to America I can be the way. That will be the benefit of Doing a feature with me. Ofcourse I’ll benefit from them too because I’m not currently in Cameroon and need a lot of exposure there. It’s all about exchanging fans.

What an amazing list of names. What inspired your Hit songs King to a Queen and Arabian Night?

(A) My hit songs Arabian Night and King to a Queen were inspired by women of course. Lately I’ve noticed when I appeal women a little bit more the reaction is amazing so I created Arabian Night and King to a Queen. Of course I’ll still be dropping bangers for everyone else since I really don’t like the creative process of making songs that appeal to women only. Honestly I prefer to stay neutral.  

After listening to a good number of your songs, i think you are strictly into Hip Hop, have you considered working on some Afrobeat projects?.
(A) I’m strictly a Hip Hop Artist but if I do decide to do AfroPop, it has to be an AfroPop Hip Hop beat. Actually my next track will be an AfroPop beat, only I’m rapping. Wait on it. It’s called “Versace”

 Great we  are looking forward to it. so what is your fan base and who do you particularly want to relate to?.

(A) My fan base is mainly Africans in the United States and a few African Americans but as I gain experience and stay longer in the game, Cameroonians, Nigerians and  everyone else is starting to vibe with me. My Facebook fan page “Ebako” is where I get my most engagement from fans and they are mostly Cameroonians or Nigerians and Africans all over America. It’s growing fast though. Can’t wait for the Blow although I’m not desperate for it nor will I rush.

 Have you worked with any Cameroonian/ African Artist before?

(A) So far I’ve worked with KO-C, Sosa Real, Jigga Flanes & Prospe which are Cameroonians but I’ll like to increase that number, I’ve worked with a few Nigerians including Teddy A, Lasgiidi, Tall Paul, Kolabo and Emazi. My focus is to increase my fan base here in the US so Cameroonians can feature with me and get exposure abroad. Vice verser.

 if you could change something in the Cameroon Music Industry what will it be?

(A) if I could change anything about the Cameroonian industry, I’ll make sure we all support one another no matter where you are located. You don’t have to be in Cameroon to be a good Artist. It’s good that there are Cameroonians outside the country. Right now the foreign Cameroonians are not getting Radio play time or TV time in Cameroon, it’s embarrassing to say this but Nigeria Played my music on TV multiple times and Radio play a lot. That’s why recently I’m using a lot of 237 and shouting out Cameroon so that my people will recognize that it’s their own rapping like this.

 Exactly i agree wth you. Do you get nervous before a performance? How do you handle mistakes during a performance?

(A) During performances I’m actually excited on stage because the more I perform the better I become but lately I limit my performances because it’s about entertainment so if I’m to perform.. I wanna be entertaining to watch and that takes planning.

 Are you working on any new projects? What is coming next?

(A) Just recorded Five new tracks but like I said before “Versace” is what I’ll drop next. If the buzz is too high, I’ll run with it and just drop a mixtape after instead of moving to another single. Camericanidol 3 will be the next mixtape.

 You said at the end of your single Arabian night that you will be dropping new tracks every month, you make it look easy. How long do you take to write a song? Mind dropping a freestyle for your fans?

(A) When in the mood I can create a full song in one day but other than that, it takes me about two to three days. Will drop a freestyle next time we do a Live interview.
