In the quest to search for talent, 1 artiste was to be voted in order to join the already selected 9 others for the Kamer Fest scheduled to take place in September this year. As a result, four nominees were selected, Blueprint Hakeem, Wan Shey, Young Holiday and Crispy. Voting was done online using the Kamer Fest website and the Sabi Boy rapper Wan Shey emerged victorious. Question the fans are asking, we are asking is ”What Next?” Will he go to represent us with 3 songs?

It is obvious the Status Update rapper made so many fans and supporters from the beginning of this year, especially after dropping sick bars in his mind blowing status update track. This pulled towards him so many shoulders he could lean and count on for votes.

Mind you, Wan Shey is an uprising rapper who has been voted to represent Cameroon on an international stage, are his released songs worthy enough to do a one hour show? Let’s count, Status Update, Grass, Wuna Morning and Head Of The Family ft Amdi. Suppose every artiste is given 2 hours to perform, Wan Shey will have to perform all 3 songs atleast 12 times. We all know this isn’t entertainment especially on the part of an uprising artiste. I personally have been to two different shows and I’ve watched him perform just the same song again and again. Unfortunately, we don’t have updates of how the show at Fresh Planet in Obili, Yaounde alongside Ambe went down yesterday, but I’m pretty sure he performed the same song.

Well, as a talented rapper from the North West Region, Nso to be precise, the ”over” 27 year old rapper has a full populated Nso force behind him. The same Nso force behind Mr. Leo that has pushed him to higher heights. It will be profitable and spectacular to go to the Kamer Fest in Atlanta with at least an EP, 2 or 3 videos or an album. You’re going for a competition you shall meet mad talent there, so brace yourself and be ready. Mind you, its Kamer Fest, not 30 Days In Atlanta. 1. He Holds A 1st Degree In Journalism and Mass Communication From Polytechnic Bambui:This highly-inspired rapper who is on a fast rise to the top doesn’t have only his musical releases on his CV he also has a 1st Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.Maybe that’s why his music so easily speaks to his fans,after all he did that in school.

2.He Is Good In Drawing:Apart from the microphone,BluePrintHakeem is also very good with his pencil,in fact he is so good that he wracked several awards and prizes related to drawing throughout his primary school and secondary school days.

3.He Is Passionate About Football:As most of the young boys in Cameroon BluePrintHakeem also tried his hands or legs to football and he actually was very good at it.He participated in the Top Cup and was selected as Beat Defender in Bamenda but due to his father’s refusal he did not continue with a career in football.I guess we should all be thanking his dad for that.

4. His Dad Serves As His Greatest Inspiration and Driving Force:The ingenuous rapper has as inspiration his Dad in both sports and music as his dad is one of the referees selected by FIFA for the 1994 World Cup and also the African 1st Division in the late 90s and early 2000s and like his dad he is also a great pianist.Talk about a father’s contribution.

5.Is Currently Pursuing A Masters’ Degree in Fashion Designing:In a bid to saturate his CV and expand his horizons ,BluePrintHakeem is currently pursuing a Masters’ Degree in Fashion Designing.

Blueprint Hakeem has released Cold Like Alaska Album, and was part of a dangerous Tag team alongside Blahk Santa on the Excuse My English EP that took the industry by storm. Blueprint recently announced the coming of his Collaboration with Africa’s Finest Rap act M.I abaga.

Two artistes throwing shade and insults at each other using any necessary medium? Oh Well!

Everyone loves a beefing industry, be it a hater or a lover of music, number 1 fan or those who don’t even care about the artistes but their songs. Some just get entertained by the rifts and feuds on social media or bars aimed at another entertainer in a well produced track. The big question is, how does this help a growing industry. Does it help the artistes involve of Exposure, Fame, Fans, Subscriptions or Revenue? What have the ASKIAS and TILLAS gained since they began throwing lame social media punches ate each other? Everyone has the right to call themselves KING or QUEEN in their songs, its left for the music, work and fans to decide truly who deserves the throne.

On the other hand, fans of our beloved Camer music industry might want to agree that “beefs” are very necessary for a growing industry because the fellow artistes involved tend to know their place in the industry as time goes by. Hence they mind the kind of bars and phrases they use. Others are made to work harder for a comeback in most cases which are never realized.

Camer’s most followed beef was that between Jovi and Stanley Enow. Well if you ask me, I’ll say they stopped fighting, the rift now is in the hands of the fans. Then the #ASKILLA brouhaha, fighting over the Camer female rap throne. Other interesting “beef” were those of Salatiel and Martin Enow, Jovi and Martin Enow, Tilla and Jovi. 

All the abovementioned feuds gave us “diabetes” in 2017, but what did the industry gain? What did the fans gain? What did the artistes themselves gain? NOTHING! In the words of Blueprint Hakeem inspired by M.I Abaga # FixUpYourLives

10. Tam Gaelo – This is Gaelo (EP)

From This is Gaelo Ep, US based Cameroonian rapper Gaelo blessed us with an EP this year with an 8 track EP with featurings from Skidi Boy and Al-K, Thug B, Tilla and Valsero. With tracks such as NoBMop ft Skidi Boy and Al-K, Buea City’s finest, the rapper gifts all these tracks for free streaming on bandcamp.com Thumbs up Gaelo we’re hoping for an album in 2018. He claims our number 10 spot.

9.  DeeCy – From Meme To Fako (Album)

Deecy released his debut album titled from “Meme To Fako” on the 25th of Dec 2017 months after his Action EP. The album has 25 songs with about 9 collaborations. There’s not a single video from the album yet but the main reason why this album makes our top 10 is because of the number of songs released in an album this year. I personally don’t recall an album from an urban artistes or rapper with close to 20 songs. So yeah, DeeCy takes the 9th spot oklm! The album is available on his soundcloud. Click here–>Deecy

8. Mic Monsta – Mic Monsta The EP (EP)

Former Kreef  Ent. Rapper Mic Monsta served us with some good music in 2017. His EP under Kreef  Ent was very much welcomed. There were also collaborations from our 9th spot album rapper DeeCy, Dready Christ, Beat Baller. With songs such as Freedom of speech ft Dready, When I blow, House party, we can literally accept this project and encourage it by streaming and supporting the artiste.  As 2018 unfolds many can’t wait to see what the Buea based Rapper’s career will look like.  Kudos to him for grabbing this spot.

7. Young Holiday – The Holiweek (EP)

Young Holiday is an upcoming rapper I would have told you to lookout for in the year 2017 but unfortunately the year already ended.  Notwithstanding, watch out for the rapper in 2018. He might make it difficult for some of these rappers.  He succesfully delivered one of the most impressive Rap projects of the year, With an EP of 7 tracks, Young made us to why his level of poetry and lyrics, and technique is making him a raw gem to watch out for. The project is something worth listening to.  Listen here.

6. Blueprint Hakeem X Blahk Santa – Excuse my Enlgish EP.

Bamenda based Rapper Blueprint Hakeem is one of the Cameroonian Rappers that many fans have been sleeping on. After releasing his album Cold Like Alaska, he partnered with Hip Hop Producer extraordinare Blahk Santa to deliver a joint project they called “Excuse my English” . The  EP  made up of 5  tracks  was one of the most outstanding projects of the year. All tracks were produced by Blahk Santa.  No Video, just straight bars, with good music. The Rapper even made December of 2017 more juicy with his 10days10songchallenge without forgetting his Fix Up your lives Cover, that helped grow his fanbase. Hakeem and Blahk promised to deliver Excuse my English 2 anytime soon.

5. VOC (First Born : Album)

VOC is a Cameroonian rapper based in the USA. His famous well known tracks include “letter to Atanga Nji Paul, Bush faller, Why and I do so swear. Although people took him for Jovi when he released the former, the rapper stand still and takes the bold step of dropping his debut album titled First Born. With an intro, the album has 15 other tracks with two bonus tracks. One amazing spirit the rapper has is he flows most especially in Pidgin English and just like the name title of his 15th track, “No French” . Thus the rapper from the North West of Cameroon claims our 5th spot. Enjoy his projects on his site here  VOCONLINE.

4. Tzy Panchak – I’m Not Lucky (EP)

Who on earth takes the risk of releasing an EP with over 12 tracks? Especially in Africa! For us, this is actually a bigger challenge on the side of Tzy  Panchak. This shows that the music is available and will keep on coming. Let’s not get sentimental here, but honestly, Tzy deserves a spot in this countdown. The EP released on the 31st of Dec 2017 is the first album that has sold digital copies using Momo on the labels site   Blunation . Already released tracks such as Mon bebe, Woman crush are in the EP, the rest are just like the title of track 9, “Brand New”. With collaborations from Dora Decca,  we all know Panchako never disappoints. The Project in general is good, due to his very catchy and meaningful lyrics. Mr Romantic is on a different level, and we can’t wait for him to continue with the consistency in 2018.

3. Magasco  – Golden Boy (Album)

Bamenda Boy has also been very active this year keeping us in our dancing shoes with his back to back releases such as Bella, Love it and the recently released  Sokoto. As if that is not enough for the year, he brings forth another daring album titled Golden boy with productions from Sangtum, himself (Magasco), Roboster and The Dreamer. With up to 14 songs such as club hit banger Sokoto, Move your body,Bella  and many other good songs such as okrika, Kam we stay ft Locko, and pardon ft Mimie. Eventhough the album has starved most of the fans in cameroon due to the availability on online streams, we had our copy and its a classic debut.  The album has  3 videos released, Magasco aka pass me the lighter claims our 3rd spot.

2. Jovi – 16 Wives (Album)

There’s not a single countdown you’ll do this year without creating a spot for Jovi’s 16 Wives, or a track in the album. Therefore, the album 16 Wives takes our 2nd spot. 16 wives was jovi’s 3rd album with 16 songs. The album  rich in rap content (Mboko) has made waves like forever. With just two videos for Mongshung and Ou Meme with which fans still aren’t satisfied, we hope there’ll be more videos off the album come 2018. The album was worked by Jovi, with a few collaborations from Pascal Yung King and Reniss. 16 Wives happens to be the first Cameroonian album available in a South Korean music platform. I wonder what they listen to. But music has no language.

1. Mr. Leo – Love Original (Album)

If we could allow Zodiac signs to be a part of the year, be it month or a festive date, then 2017 can be unarguably referred to as the “Leo Year”. An album, with almost every track accompanied with an official video such as Pray, Je suis moi comme ca ft Fanicko, jamais jamais etc  is so much achievement that deserves all the praise. That is why the alpha better star takes our number 1 spot. However, the album seems to have created a vacuum for many critics as they claim most of the songs in the album had already been released long ago, making it discouraging for purchase. But as it stands, if you aren’t paying for content, purchase for support. the album allthough having more than 70% of songs released had Top Notch Hits.

Worthy Mentions: TrongPikin  – The Conscious Ep

And it is for this reason that I present to you the Best Cameroonian rappers of 2017 based on the music (Albums, EP, Lyrics, Hit Singles), Power moves, Consistency,Buzz and shows.

10)  Blueprint Hakeem.

Bamenda Based Rapper Blueprint Hakeem has been putting out  strictly Rap Content All year. His Excuse my English Project  is something we can’t forget in a hurry because it is one of the best projects that was released this year. Although void of a hit track as of now, His Cold Like Alaska Album and his #10Days10Song challenge has set him up high when it comes to rappers with good content and good delivery this year. Hakeem has seen some growth this year with his Fix Up Your Lives Cover creating some buzz on the Media. Hakeem Occupies spot 10 on my list.

9) Ngoma

On the number nine spot  is Mangosi Crooner Ngoma.  Over the years the young and versatile rap act eventhough without the label has been able to mold himself to be  a huge asset and rapper zo look up to. Ngoma produced the biggest Rap song of the year, inviting other rap acts such as Kikoh and Nernos. Even-though he had only one single all year, his hit single was heavy enough to let him occupy this spot.

8) Skidi Boy

At the number eight spot we have the Cameroonian Street King Skidi Boy. The Kumba born rapper has been one of the realest huzzlers of the year. Even-though without a label or sponsor, the young rapper has been able to grow a fanbase and create a supporting niche for himself . His ability to use hardcore street slang’s has created for him his unique style that will forever be remembered in years to come. Skidi boy in 2017 has released singles such as  Encore ft Gomez,  Nanga Mboko, Terminator, Bloggers  and I no Dey me dey. Spitting bars back to back and making use of the events happening around.

7) Mic Monsta

Yes! this list is not near complete if  Mic Monsta is not listed . The Mayor of Punchline District  although had some cold months did see some improvements in his career recently with the release of  his much appreciated Work, Mic Monsta The EP. His EP was highly rated by many Camer Music Industry fans , making it easy for the Rapper to make it to the Top 10.

6) Mink’s

Mink’s is now one of the biggest boys in town who earn alot from his rap business. Mink’s has been able to create his own  rap style by introducing much comedy into his lyrics. The rapper in 2017 has released singles such as Levicus, Le Number, Gigolo with numerous collaborations (Mimbayeur, Power, On T’a Lu)  and  an album Tranches 2 vie released ending 2016 has made him one of the Biggest rappers of 2017 . He boast his rap career with his funny lines and he is now listed among the most bankable rappers in Cameroon today. Mink’s occupies spot 6

5) Boy Tag

Boy Tag’s introduction into the Rap scene came as a surprise to many. His first feature for the year was in the Viral single Showbiz by Uprising Rapper  M-pro that had many appreciate his talent. Not to long after that One of Cameroons biggest Record Labels  Stevens Music Ent.  announced his signature to the Record label with  2 Freestyles that went viral and set him among the very best Rappers of 2017. Although there is the need for more content from the Rapper, Boy tag has done a great job with his singles Mignoncite without forgetting his recently released Njoka and Sauvagerie.  Boy tag  merits spot 5 and he is  a Hotjem we need to watch out for in 2018.

4) Ko-C

Cameroons fastest Rapper and Big Dreams Ent’s Hotjem Ko-C has been very outstanding in 2017. Ko-C AkA Kossss is an industrious rapper just like Boy Tag and has been noted for his very fast manner of delivery.

Ko-C has registered quite an impressive success in 2017, His singles Bollo C’est Bollo, 1 love you ft Locko, Laisse moi Passer . His covers, and rap freestyles filtered him from the rest in the competition.

3) Ebako

USA based Cameroonian rapper Ebako has made some reasonable waves win 2017. His Rap project Camericanidol3 is amoungst the top Mixtapes/Projects released this year. Ebako released rap songs such as Guap feat Stanley Enow, Greener, Camericana ,Versace remix ft Mic Monsta and many other amazing Rap songs on his Project. Ebako is easily one of Cameroons most Finnest Export in the Diaspora. Many seem to ignore artists in the Diaspora, but in my opinion Ebako is one of Cameroon’s Best rappers at the moment.

2) Tenor

Tenor,  is one of the youngest Cameroonian Urban artists and is currently among the most popular rappers in Cameroon.  The Rapper who has wowed Rap fans with his fast style of rap with his Comedy punchlines  has made him grow his fanbase with his back to back releases. The Universal Music Africa Starboy, has released countless singles in 2017 such as Bad things, Kabangondo and numerous collaborations. The young superstar occupies spot 2 on my list.

1)Jovi

Jovi is that indigenous rapper that needs no introduction but for the sake of some of us i will be introducing the industrious rapper . He is popularly known as Jovi Le Monstre with the name Le Monstre being his producer tag name.

When it come to typical Cameroonian rap songs, you have to give it up for the New Bell Music Rapper.  His third studio album 16Wives was arguably one of the Best albums of the year 2017 and one of the best alltime Rap albums. His album was best selling on platforms such as Bandcamp for a couple of weeks, and Jovi become the First  Cameroonian Rapper to Headline a show in Eastern Africa(Nyege Nyege Fest).

His singles such as Ou Meme, 20 Ba, Devil Nodi Sleep and his Yaje Vol. 1 EP has made his work stand out among the other Cameroonian rappers in 2017.

Other Worthy Mentions.
Kikoh: Kikoh did great in 2017, especially with his Calamity Cypher Series. His  guest feature on Mangosi and later on his single Deposer  made him  a strong contestant for the top 10.

Young Holiday: Bamenda based Rapper Young Holiday created some buzz this year with his Holiweek EP that was released some months ago. Eventhough most of his fans come from the english speaking part, The Poetic rap prodigy proved to many that he will be such a big deal in some years to come. Watch out For Young.. H

Ndimofor Pascal: Pascal is easily one of the best Cameroonian Male Rappers in recent years, due to  his Unique Storytelling rap style.  since he quit New Bell Music, there has been the need for the Rapper to maintain that consistency and Quality on the songs he releases. His singles Paapi and Benediction were not heavy enough to earn him a spot on this years top 10.
