Their performance at the closing ceremony was the icing on the cake that sealed their credibility and landed them victory.

The dance crew were followed by the duo known as “The Union”, two brothers from the Northwest Region who developed their skills during the Anglophone Crisis and the Covid-19 lockdown. They came 2nd and walked away with 5.000.000 CFA.

Talented singer Alexie Hillaire raised eyebrows and had everyone captivated in her dulcet voice and vocal prowess as she did an interpretation of the national anthem. She emerged 3rd and received a cash prize of 3.000.000 CFA.

Despite the hurdles faced by the organizers to pull off a show of this caliber with zero sponsorships and no major collaborators, all is well that ends well. Mr. Robert Ngute, representative of SOUNDZcmr CEO assured the public and media that season 1 is only the beginning of a long journey that will definitely last for decades. He pledged his dedication to go harder next year.

Starting off as a lover of comedy, Senior Pastor on the microphone of 237Showbiz revealed that he got inspiration watching comedians like Gordons, Gandoki and Aboki 4 Christ. He assimilated their comedy with the help of Cameroon’s ace producer Emile Ngomba who recorded his first comedy. Senior Pastor also stated that Cameroonian comedian Big Mama Agatha also played a major role in mentoring him as a comedian.

When asked how he got into the Nigerian market, Senior Pastor revealed that he has been attending the AY Live comedy show in Nigeria since the year 2016, he will travel by water to Lagos, buy a ticket, sit as a regular guest and take down notes. During the red carpet, the comedian said he will make sure all the media houses interviewed him. Once they learned he is a comedian from Cameroon, they are always eager to know what brings him and that is how he got his face on many TVs and platforms in Nigeria.

Fast forward to 2018, Senior Pastor returned to Lagos for the AY Live comedy show and also registered for Ali Baba’s Spontaneity Talent Hunt where he emerged 2nd runner up. This platform opened many doors for the comedian. The talent hunt had judges such as Okey Bakassi, Ali Baba and AY Comedian. At this juncture, Senior Pastor will land in Nigeria and spend nights in car parks and sometimes the event venue, attend the event and travel back to Cameroon. The comedian revealed he was able to take his first flight and paid his first hotel bills in the year 2020 and that was his break into the Nigerian Comedy Industry, during his performance at Ali Baba’s Comedy Show. Grace found Senior Pastor that year as Ali Baba introduced Senior Pastor on stage because he wanted to introduce Senior Pastor to the Nigerian market. Feeling impressed, Ali Baba added that some Nigerian comedians complained a lot that Lagos is too far to come for shows but a comedian travelled all the way from Cameroon to come Nigeria for a competition and emerged third.

The Cameroonian comedian recently thrilled the audience of AY Live Easter Sunday 2022 with a brilliant performance, cracking ribs and leaving everything single person in the audience amazed.

“I’ve always wanted to perform at the AY Live. I reached out to Ali Baba asking for an opportunity to get on the AY Live stage, although he didn’t get back to me, he reached out to AY and when I arrived the hall, AY received me with open arms and told me Ali Baba had told him I was coming.” – Senior Pastor revealed.

Senior Pastor’s hilarious performance at the AY Live has earned him another spot at the Pencil Unbroken Comedy Show slated for September 2022.

“To break into the Nigerian market, you must be very good in what you do and you must be able to market yourself there. There are times I’ll go and perform for shows in Limbe, Douala and Yaoundé for free, just to keep the name alive and for people to know that a comedian like me exists.” – Senior Pastor commented on how to penetrate the Nigerian market.

MC Charlene alias the Energy Goddess stepped on stage shutting down a full house of over 2.000 people who turned up to get a taste of African entertainment right there on foreign soil. Both Diamond Platnumz and MC Charlene had promised to deliver by thrilling the crowd. MC Charlene proved once again that she is the right host for your shows as she hyped the crowd, danced, teased and kept the show alive. The reactions from the crowd during Charlene’s performance and hype is a clear indication that she delivered and got the job done.

The full house which has been filled back to back two weeks in a roll proves that African entertainment is gradually gaining grounds in Europe. MC Charlene who can easily be described as the Cameroonian MC/Host flag bearer keeps making both her country and continent proud. Charlene managed to record her works throughout the year 2018 as she toured over 30 cities worldwide and more than 14 countries shutting down each and every show at her disposal. Her works speaks volumes and this actually got her 3 huge nominations at international awards.

The Afro Diaspora Influential Awards, The Scandinavia Adrobeats Music Awards and the African Pride Awards are the three award shows in which MC Charlene has one leg in and the other leg out. Our platfrom has been promoting the Johnnie Walker Music Concert months before the deal day, we promised our followers that we were going to stream the concert LIVE on our Facebook page which we did for 3hrs and 30minutes without a single interruption. We followed every performance and we decided to drop a review of each and every artistes starting with Stevens Music singer SHURA.

The Cameroonian singer stepped on stage in a sexy outfit which revealed almost everything and anything. Her performance in songs written in her mother tongue were OK! The crowd was thrilled with dance steps from her energetic dancers and by the time she started getting to her hit songs “Dis Moi Tout and Allez Dire” the “hit” messages were being sent and the crowd replied with a positive feedback! As the only female in the line up amongst 4 great African entertainers, Shura was bold and maintained her composure on stage through out the whole show! Filled with so much smiles, even if you were just seeing her for the first time, you could feel her confidence miles away. She did her best, we cant wait to see what the Yaounde feeling will be like come 20th! If i was to grade her performance I’ll give her a 6/10

Coming up next after the Allez Dire crooner is Ach4Life rapper and singer Mink’s. The rapper thrilled the crowd from start to finish with “Le Gars La Est Laid and Couper L’appétit. Mink’s had control over the band and the crowd at the same time. He was exceptional and his performance was one to watch and watch again. He always remembered to keep the crowd in the same hyped mood each and after every song. If I should grade Mink’s performance, I’ll score him 8.5/10

From Shura to Mink’s to Ko-C this was the exact line up. The BigDreams and Cameroon’s fastest rapper stepped on stage with an intro of his latest single featuring Fanicko titled Sango. Rapping and singing with a live band, he later switches to “Do Like I Do” featuring DJ Zoumanto and Mimie, Bollo C’est Bollo and Balancé. Ko-C’s overall performance was applaudable given the fact that he had most of Cameroon’s most recent hit songs and seeing him perform them live and rapping was a great feeling. Ill rate his performance 6/10

From all indications, the above mentioned acts happen to be supporting acts of the entire concert, reason being that they had almost the same time allocations and stepped on stage earlier than both Jovi and Tekno who were the main acts for the night. Even their positions on the posters tell you a greater story. After the performances of Ko-C, DJ Cyrus Black was called upon to warm up the stage for the first main artistes of the night, after scratching and mixing his discs for over 20 minutes, I could see and listen people complaining both at the venue and the comment section of the live stream about why the DJ is playing foreign songs (Nigeria most especially) in a concert in Cameroonian dominated by Cameroonian artistes. Few minutes later, the stage was all set for Jovi to step on.

Jovi’s intro got everyone up on their feet and their phones set to recording. I could notice the screams from the very first glance and when he stepped on stage. We are talking about that feeling of a fan who is seeing their favorite artiste for the very first time on stage. The love and reactions were priceless. The New Bell Music boss had an impeccable intro with some strange looking guys dressed in black garments holding flames, before we could all settle down, he stroke the first lines of his Man Pass Man 4 track and the crowd went crazy! At the beginning it was really good, Jovi’s energy on stage was super! He got the crowd singing songs like Zélé, Et P8 Koi, Bastard and Cash. The crowd was super hyped he had to repeat some of the songs. It was a great feeling and many applauded his efforts. We’re talking about someone who lastly stepped on stage way back in 2016 at the French Kind and New Bell Music concert at Club Camtel Draggages Yaounde.

However, when you are paid to deliver, you have to do it exceptionally well given that you are an entertainer. If you ask me to grade the rapper’s performance in Douala, I’ll give him a 5/10. Why am I grading Jovi with a 5 on 10? Simply because I personally expected him to deliver and deliver 100%. As one of the concerts biggest names and the catalog of music in his possession! He should maintain the same energy from the start to the end.

Firstly, I felt like he was lost for choice given the fact that he has a very huge discography, his choice of songs and the manner in which it was programmed wasn’t the very best. He constantly switched and mixed raps songs that carried and got the crowd chanting to slow songs like off his 16 Wives album which suddenly brought down the heat. At some point in time, the rapper was also missing his lines and wordings to his songs. While some blamed it on him being in a tensed mood, others said it’s because the DJ’s constant scratching and the fact that he didnt have back up were some of the things responsible for the errors of his performance at some point. I for one do not know how to step on stage and perform, but I have an idea on how a rapper should be the commander of the stage, lead the DJ and gain total control of the crowd. Always remembering to get them all hyped and respond when you give the mic. So much was expected from the Mboko God and he delivered in the best way that he could. So many songs that could have kept his energy from beginning to the end were left out, Ndole, Pimentcam, Tchak, Achombo House, just to name a few. It will be a great show for the rapper later today if he reviews his songs for tonight and doesn’t forget to maintain the same energy from the beginning to the end of the show! There are so many songs he could do that with.

Finally, Slim Daddy, Tekno, although he isn’t Cameroonian, he is a brother and just like Jovi asked the crowd to be hospitable and recieve him well when he comes on stage, so was it. Tekno stepped on stage with two back up singers, he got the people actually dancing and cheering, believe it or not, a greater proportion of the crowd were actually waiting to see Tekno as well.

Even with his present health situation, he still delivered and every beat that dropped got the people screaming. Should I grade Tekno ? Well it will be unfair not to. 8/10 is what I’ll give the Slim Daddy. Atleast for someone performing and throwing away 100 dollar notes, its enough gesture to keep the crowd hyped throughout the night! 

Notwithstanding, our organizers need to believe in our home base artistes, they need to understand that our own artistes are capable of pulling the crowds from every part of the country. This will actually boost up their value and give them more respect. I can’t end this review without giving Johnnie Walker Music Concert Organizers a very mighty CONGRATULATIONS on the level of security which they put in place from the gates to the venue itself. Several checks and the fact that they strictly maintained the 21+ age restrictions.

Although some viewers on the live stream complained about the sound system, I wish they were on ground to see the kind of equipment that was put in place. Well, we are looking forward to an extraterrestrial show later today the 20th of April 2019 at PAPOSY. Come support all Cameroonian artistes and Tekno as well. Let music unite and not divide. Remember, we’re all brothers and sisters of Africa.

All in all, all 5 performers are very talented artistes and all they need is maximum support while performing on stage. Give them the love and support them during their various performances. Till then, see you on Sunday for another review of Yaounde’s performance.

It is worthy to note that the Tenor concert from the word GO! was set to be a challenge and for this reason many people interested in the concert were there particularly to confirm for themselves if Tenor will be able to join Cameroonian rapper Maahlox to fill up the 5600 sitting capacity sport complex after the Universal Music Africa prodigy was ranting hours later when Cameroonian fans of Congolese singer Fally Ipupa filled up the complex with a fee of 10.000CFA. Thus this diverted the purpose of the concert. Many people who showed up didn’t do so for the show but to witness if he did fill it up.

The GOOD side of the “Tenor au PAPOSY” concert were quite a few which we cited. Firstly, the security was tight, strict and very active. The men in uniform acted accordingly from the gate, into the corridors and right into the complex.

Series of instances of pick pockets who were caught stealing smartphones and purses were arrested and its obvious they spent that night in jail. Apart from the aspect of security, the presence of big icons and personalities like Samuel Eto’o and his younger brother David Eto’o who came to show their support was a big push for the 20 year old LVMH crooner. Its was quite a moment on stage when the 4 time African footballer of the year handed him the flag of Cameroon on stage. It was an emotional encounter.

Also, another good thing about the show was the performance of DJ Petit Piment, the crowd was crazy seeing a white man singing bikutsi mixed with franc-anglais as he thrilled the crowd.

Other goodies were the presence of A Listed artistes such as Blanche Bailly, LOCKO, Maahlox just to name a few who came in to show their support. Tenor’s performance was quite interesting at the start, it was a good show. We can rate it 6/10.

The BAD side of the concert was the planning, the organisation, timing and support from the crowd.

We shall be comparing this to that of Maahlox because just like we mentioned earlier, the goal was to fill up the sports complex.

Firstly, the late start of the concert was a worry because there were a lot of artistes who were given close to 4 minutes each but they didn’t even get on stage. At about 10PM, Tenor as main artiste wasn’t ready to perform either. Is it that he couldn’t hold the show for hours due to the number of songs he has or its just bad timing?

Another BAD aspect of the show was the performances of some A Listed artistes, the likes of LOCKO and Blanche Bailly felt like their presence was just a boost to Tenor’s concert. As for Maahlox, he just came to answer present. Showing himself and didn’t even perform in the expensive suit he showed up with.

Also, Buea based artiste Yung Time stepped on stage and performed on of his latest release. After the chorus, he went to his verse on the song. As soon as Skidi Boy‘s verse got in, the DJ scratched his disc and ended his performance. If you calculate the time from when the song Hololo began to Skidi Boy’s verse, Yung Time just wasted his Time and young career on stage at Tenor’s concert. He wasn’t even given the chance to make the crowd know the song whereas other uprising artistes performed for over 4 to 5 minutes.

More over, not every artiste whose name was on that poster was opportune to get on stage. Uprising singer and Tabala crooner Senge didn’t perform either. I am more than convinced that over 3000 people present at the concert had no idea an A List artiste like Blaise B was present and set to perform but one way or the other he didn’t. It felt like the organisers kept telling him hold on hold!

Apart from the GOOD and BAD aspects of the concert, there was a “Wowo” side. The “wowo” side of the concert is the fact that Tenor didn’t fill up the Multipurpose Sports Complex even with the influence of Samuel Eto’o, David Eto’o, Maltup, Universal Music Africa, friends, fans of his, fans of other upcoming artiste who came to support them etc.
Compared to that of Maahlox on the 26th of June 2018. There is a great difference.

Tenor tried, he is courageous enough to make an attempt. Now question is, do we say Maahlox is the first and only Cameroonian urban artiste to have filled up PAPOSY ? Or do we add Tenor to the chain?

Although Cameroonians came late as usual (African Time in America), the event picked up steam when the main acts such as Magasco, Minks’, Mr. Leo and Stanley Enow were present and their performances were lit! DJ Claude, the official DJ for the night kept the disc spinning throughout the night.

This is the first time a Cameroonian show of that nature is organized in the United States. Organized by Ebangha Njang of Kreef Entertainment with additional support by the hands of Sa Majesté Magazine, Gyldas, a popular promoter and ICON Prod, there were no means the Made In Cameroon Music Festival wouldn’t escape any signs of failure. Most of our sources on ground were contented with the turn out, performances of the main acts and how the show started on time. Below are some pictures of how it went down.

Although the Made In Cameroon Music Festival recorded a good number of success stories, there were also a few things which our sources confirmed didn’t go well throughout the festival. Information which flew all the way from Maryland to our desk on 237Showbiz reads that 3 artistes who were scheduled to perform didn’t perform after all. Eddy Bee, Adele Clarice and Naomi Achu.
The program of the festival shows that the likes of Eddy Bee who was slated to get on stage on the 7PM set didn’t perform at all and he was given only 4 minutes. Although our sources didn’t state the main reason why he didn’t get on stage, but one thing is sure he didn’t get a chance. Same story with Clarice, and Naomi Achu.

Naomi Achu according to the program was to get on stage as from 8PM that night, she was to do her magic for 15 minutes but was no where near the stage. Others were furious with the manner in which the different minutes for performances were allocated and how the artistes were segmented. As a result, it was said that the artistes who didn’t perform felt disrespected. Well I will feel the same if I were in their shoes. You can check the program of the show below.

Notwithstanding, we can admit that the show will only get better and better as the years go by. Like I mentioned earlier, this is just its very first edition and Cameroonians who attended and followed the show live are expecting it gets better next year and the years ahead. While hoping that the existing differences be sorted out amicably before next year’s event where we hope to see most of our new artistes shutting it down, all we can do is watch and support.
